Designing a Microsoft SQL Server Always On High Availability Stacked w/ Distributed Availability Groups
by BF (Principal Consultant; Architecture; Engineering)

SQL Server Distributed Availability Groups is a type of Availability Group that spans two separate Availability Groups across two different Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC) clusters.

A high-level architecture design diagram of a Distributed Availability Group is shown below.

Distributed Availability Groups are used to provide an extra level of high availability, disaster recovery and scale-out.

Distributed availability groups are available starting with SQL Server 2016.
